As an atheist I often struggle with how to address people who provide blessings from their religion. Interesting as time goes on I find it harder and harder to return their blessing in kind as it just goes against everything that I have embraced. Now I know that many of you state well you should just ignore it and just go along to get along. The problem with this is that there are numerous issues that I cannot go along to get along with and the very first being that I think all religion is just bunk and fantasy. Next, I have problems with it as I find all religions uphold some form of violence, discrimination, human rights violation, gender apartheid and well the list keeps on going. Therefore, it just grates against my last nerve to return a blessing from any religion as I deem it to be a blessing lined in human atrocities. So what to do? Well…………………I have instead decided that when a person states some of the following items that I provide an atheist blessing as well.
My God bless you and guide you ———————————-My reason and common sense enlighten you
Bless you or Labriut————————Aren’t you glad that sneezing fit ended
Masha Allaah —————————My you be enlighted with reason and rational thought
God willed it —————————–Shit happens
Well it should make for some interesting conversation and at the very lest I am no longer validating a system based on fictional story telling.
